Hi To Everyone -

First, for your positions as a Teacher Fellow in the Teacher Leadership Network, Diane has been asked to provide a brief biography of each of you. Please send Diane 2-3 sentences about yourself (i.e., the school and district you teach in, what grade/subject you teach, how long you've been teaching, etc). Email your brief biography to Diane at dyhoppey@coe.ufl.edu. I noticed on the TNLI listserv that they now have available a downloadable podcast of a teacher sharing his action research. If anyone checks it out, let us know. I think the idea of a podcast of teacher research is cool - maybe something we might incorporate into our work sometime in the future.

Speaking of the future . . . Anyone interested in putting in a proposal for the International Conference of Teacher Research with me? The dates of the conference are March 28 and March 29 -- this is the conference Gail Ritchie spoke of. It is at Bank Street College of Education in New York (a pretty fun place to visit!) . . . not sure how we can fund travel but I'll work on it. Perhaps a bake sale at the Showcase? (I'm only kidding about this one, but I have considered selling the t-shirts we made for all of you last year as a way to raise some funds to support travel - Apparently Susan was approached by a couple folks last year who asked if we were selling them - imagine that!). Open to any and all ideas! I'd love to have at least one of you attend this international conference! I'll write the proposal, so all you have to do is commit to attend and share at our session should it be accepted.

One final announcement . . . I met with Chris yesterday and he is still working on some tweaking for our on-line community to help it be even more user-friendly. There have been some very interesting, thoughtful, and informative posts in the last week so if you haven't had the opportunity just to "play around" in our community and visit different bloggers and posts, and respond to their blogs, you may enjoy doing so.

That's all the announcements for now . . .

Hi Everyone -

Two Important Opportunities I'd like you to consider -

1. National Staff Development Council Presentation.

We will have a national conference in "our own backyard" in July. National Staff Development Council is holding their summer meeting for teacher leaders and the administrators who support them right in Orlando at the Marriott World Center July 13-16. OUR WORK IS ON THE CUTTING EDGE OF ALL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND WE SHOULD DEFINITELY PUT OUR HATS IN THE RING TO PRESENT!! Please let me know if you are interested in presenting our wonderful work together -- the proposals are due on Friday, so I will need to know of your interest by Wednesday. I'll write the proposal - if we get accepted, all you need to do is show up and share! This is a phenomenal conference and a great opportunity. I can't promise anything yet, but I am working on finding funds to defray the travel cost -- Yet, given that it's in Orlando, the costs for us to attend a national conference will be minimal!! We could even drive down for the day! PLEASE CONSIDER PARTICIPATING IN THIS PHENOMENAL OPPORTUNITY AND NOTIFY ME BY WEDNESDAY OF YOUR INTEREST!

2. Teacher Network Leadership Institute Meeting in Delaware. Diane hasn't heard from anyone about interest in participating in the paid opportunities she shared with you from TNLI - that's fine . . . as we are just beginning this year. BUT . . . we have two 100% paid for slots for participation in the Fall Meeting of Fellows from across the nation in Delaware - one for the affliate director and one for a teacher fellow. Sharon Hayes is attending for Diane, as she has another conference, but we don't have a teacher volunteer yet!! THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY!! Attached are the notes about this first meeting from an Affiliate Director's meeting Diane attended. PLEASE CONSIDER ATTENDING -- EVERYTHING IS PAID FOR, and I think it would be a fabulous experience! All you need to do is book an airline ticket and CSI will reimburse you! CONTACT ME BY WEDNESDAY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED AND WE'LL HELP YOU MAKE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS!! (We'll take the first person we hear from!!)

Here are two opportunities for us to connect our work to a national audience and make an impact. As we consider these opportunities, I realize we are entering new territory with our work -- We haven't yet focused on sharing our work with others and becoming more visible in education. Entering new territory can be both exciting and scary at the same time, so I wonder how you are all are feeling about opportunities such as these -- In what ways are they and are they not of interest to you? How do you feel about sharing our work more broadly? What are the barriers and constraints to extending your role of teacher leader outside your schools/districts?

Looking forward to this discussion in our on-line Professional Learning Community! I'll be posting another announcement about the logistics of the Kick-Off in a day or two. PLEASE REMEMBER TO CONTACT ME BY WEDNESDAY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN EITHER OR BOTH OPPORTUNITIES!
